Frequently asked questions

What is a Podiatrist?

A Podiatrist is a highly skilled practitioner in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the feet and lower legs.

What’s the difference between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist?

There is no difference between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist - the qualifications changed regarding protected titles (diploma for Chiropodist; degree for Podiatrist and subsequent degree top-up for Chiropodists). The term Podiatrist is the modern title used by clinicians regulated by law by the Health and Professions Council (HCPC). Anyone using a title protected in law – in this case ‘chiropodist’ or ‘podiatrist’ – must be registered with the HCPC. Misuse of a protected title is a criminal offence, and anyone claiming to be registered with the HCPC who is not is also illegal. The HCPC will prosecute people who commit these crimes.

Why should I see a Podiatrist?

There are many common problems that can affect the legs and feet which a Podiatrist can help to assess, diagnose and treat. Whether you require help with nail care, corn/callus removal or you may have more complex issues relating to diabetes or arthritic changes affecting your joints; it is always advisable to see a Podiatrist to review your feet and provide a personalised treatment plan.

Can you help me with an ingrown toenail?

The Podiatrist can assess and treat ingrown toe nails whilst providing advice of aftercare and prevention of reoccurrence. Usually caused by footwear, inappropriate cutting of the nail plate or trauma/injury; the podiatrist can provide insight and help to alleviate any pain/symptoms caused by such a problem.

My foot is painful, what’s the cause?

Following assessment of your symptoms, the podiatrist will be able to help with any areas of concerns relating to pain/injury or otherwise. However, there is very little that can be done before physically assessing the problem, therefore, it is advisable to book in for an appointment to discuss this in more detail before a tailored treatment plan can be made for you. Feel free to contact us on the details below if you have any enquiries relating to your foot health.
